Istanbul taxi fare: how it works

What makes up the taximeter fare?

• Opening fee: the first amount shown when the ride starts.
• Rate per kilometre: added for every kilometre driven.
• Time rate: added by time when the car is stopped or moving very slowly in traffic.
• Minimum fare: the lowest amount you pay on a very short ride.

Not included in the fare

Bridge, tunnel and motorway tolls are not included in the taximeter and are paid separately.

Yellow, turquoise and black taxis

Taxis of different colours run on different tariffs. Yellow is the standard tariff; turquoise and black taxis are more expensive.

Current tariff (as of 20 July 2026)

The tariff set by decision no. 813 of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council (17 July 2026) has applied since 20 July 2026. It is updated from time to time; you can check the current amounts in the municipality tariff table.

The estimate on this site is based on the tariff and the estimated distance; it does not include waiting in traffic or tolls. The final fare is the amount on the taximeter.

How to avoid overpaying

• Make sure the taximeter is switched on at the start of the ride.
• Do not take a car that offers a fixed price without switching on the meter.
• Check the amount on the taximeter when you pay.
